הקיץ כבר כאן והרחובות עמוסים חיוכים וקרני שמש. אין על ניו יורק ביוני, רגע לפני שנהיה חם ולח, רגע לפני שכולם יוצאים לחופשה, סצנת האמנות הניו-יורקית מלבלבת. אספנו בשבילכם שלוש המלצות מרעננות במיוחד לדברים שלא כדאי להחמיץ החודש  פרפורמנס של האמנית תמר אתון האמנית הישראלית, תמר אתון, תציג את עבודת הפרפורמנס שלה בחלל האמנות ״פיוניר-וורקס״ שבשכונת רד-הוק. אתון, שעברה לארצות הבית לטובת תואר שני באונ׳ ייל וחיה בניו יורק מזה מספר שנים,היא אמנית אשר עוסקת בפרפורמנס, פיסול, מחול ווידאו עבודתה הנוכחית נקראת ״ים המלח״ והיא נכתבה בהשראת סיפורה של אביגיל, שחיה בירושלים ומעולם לא ביקרה בים. העבודה נעשתה במסגרת תכנית השהיה של אתון בפיוניר וורק, שם היא עובדת מזה מספר חודשים יוני 25, 26 Pioneer Works  אנקל ברודר הקיץ הגיע ואין יותר כיף מלצאת מניו יורק אל עבר אפ-סטייט הירוקה טיולים בטבע, שחיה באגמים, ביקור בפארקי פסלים, חנויות עתיקות, מסעדות מקומיות באמת שלא חסר מה לעשות. בין כל אלו יש גם את מסעדת הפופ אפ של האמן ריקריט טריווניג׳ה,אשר מוכר בתור אמן-שף המארח סעודות בחללי אמנות שונים ברחבי העולם בכל שנה טאיווניג׳ה עולה לצפון ניו יורק בשיתוף עם גלרית גאבין בראון ויחד, הם מריצים מסעדת פופ אpבחלל מיוחד הממוקם בהנקוק הפסטורלית, כשעתיים נסיעה מניו יורק. התפריט משתנה בכל כמה ימים ובחלל הסמוך מוצגת תערוכה של מספר אמני הגלריה Uncle Brother, Hancock, NY http://www.unclebrother.org  הביאנלה בויטני מדי שנתיים, מוזיאון הוויטני פותח בחגיגיות תערוכה קבוצתית גדולה המציגה עבודות מפי האמנים מרכזיים בסצנת האמנות העכשווית בארצות הברית. בביאנלה הנוכחית תוכלו לראות בין היתר את עבודותיהם של ניקול אייזנמֿן המצויינת, המציגה מיצב פיסולי על גג המוזיאון, ג׳פרי גיבסון המגיב בעבודותיו לשורשיו האינדיאנים, טוד גריי בן ה-65 שעבד במהלך חייו כצלמו האישי של מייקל ג׳קסון, סימון לי, אשר מציגה כעת במקביל פסל ציבורי גדול מימדים עלהיי-ליין ועוד רבים וטובים עד ספטמבר 22 Whitney Biannual

Her first American museum retrospective at the New Museum is the largest exhibition of her work yet. “Sarah Lucas: Au Naturel” features some of Lucas’s most important projects, including early sculptures from the 1990s. From her photographic self-portraits to her stuffed-stocking bunnies, the exhibition presents an interesting take on one of the most important and controversial artists in the UK. Through January 18th, 2019 The New Museum  Matthew Monahan: frNMEz Los Angeles-based artist Matthew Monahan has always been known for his mastery of both traditional and industrial materials. In his show at the Anton Kern Gallery, he presents a group of freestanding figurated sculptures and painting on aluminum, reflecting a physical and mental perspective on the history of figuration. By using primarily black and white mediums, Monahan forces the viewer to zoom in and out across the room to understand the objects in space, as they overlap and crossfade. This MoMa PS1’s retrospective carefully examines Nauman’s approach across media and throughout the decades, in the most comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s work ever assembled. Best known for his works with neon, American artist Bruce Nauman employed a tremendous range of materials and working methods throughout his career, revealing how mutable experiences of time, space, movement, and language provide an unstable foundation for understanding our place in the world. Defying categorization, Nauman’s art constantly shifts between mediums, senses, and modes of experience. During the last weekend of September, many Brooklyn-based artists will open their studios for the public to view throughout the day, followed by night events and group shows. The Bushwick Open Studios festival also hosts performances and panel discussions with local cultural institutions. September 28-30 Free entrance  Dîner en Blanc NYC It may not be an art show, but this unique and exclusive event is definitely a unique visual experience. The New York white dinner, inspired by the French dinner party, happens one night every summer and is considered to be one of the most elegant and massive events in the city. The event usually attracts thousands of people to a secret outdoors location that is revealed at the very last minute, only for people who registered in advance. It’s important to note that everything in the event, from tables to chairs, is BYO (Bring Your Own) and everything, of course, needs to be in white. The delicious picnic basket, however, is curated by Renowned chef and Michelin Star recipient Marc Forgione. Monday, September 17th 52$ per ticket  Photoville If your interested in photography, don’t miss Photoville, an annual festival which displays a diverse variety of cross-section photography from all over the world. Photoville takes place in Brooklyn Bridge Plaza, located in DUMBO, right beneath the span of the bridge. The shipping containers in the venue will be transformed into art galleries for a week, showcasing over 600 visual artists. During the evenings, the festival offers nighttime projection programs, workshops, panel discussions and talks. This family-friendly festival also, of course, hosts a range of food vendors and a beer garden. Like life, Sculpture, Color and the Body – The Metropolitan Museum of Art Like Life displays a variety of human sculptures from varying periods, from modern date all the way to the 1300s. The exhibit’s driving point is to show how people have depicted the human body in sculpture, specifically the level of detail to realism. Rather than this being a single artist’s project, this is a group effort done and hosted by The Met, including classic period, European-origin pieces on loan. It’s an exclusive exhibit that runs till July 22nd, so do give it a look. The entire exhibit is being hosted at the Met Breuer (Madison Ave.) in Manhattan. Objects as Friends - Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys – Gavin Brown’s Enterprise until April 22nd This art exhibition takes on a more traditional approach in its display media, hitting close to home with its subject matter. With over 300 color photographs, the artists follow the trail of discarded and broken objects, capturing every imperfection from their useless state. Gruyter and Thys have adapted the idea from the late Johannes, an old German painter from the later 1940s’. Gavin Brown’s Enterprise’s 439 west 127th St.  Spring Performance Festival – MoMa PS1 April 15th from 12PM-6PM The Spring Performance Festival hosts various artists work and performances such as plays, music, video productions and solo pieces. It’s backed by Secret Project Robot, an alternative artist community based in Brooklyn. Aside from the featured performances, there will be “pop-up” artists and performances as well. The entire venue hopes to encourage people to interact with their current world through a display of art. MoMA’s PS1 22-25 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101   Spring/Break art show March 6th – March 12th SPRING/BREAK Art Show is an annual art fair dedicate to emerging artist and independent curators. While the Armory Art Week holds mostly traditional and established galleries, SPRING/BREAK is known as the fresh alternative. The seventh annual fair will be held at the former James A. Farley Post Office, a historic building in times square. More than 100 curators have been selected to present shows that draw on this year theme; "Stranger Comes To Town". 4 Times Square.  The Armory Show Mar 8th – 11th New York premier fair for contemporary art will feature 200 leading international galleries, innovative artist commissions, and public programs. For the second time, The Armory show will spotlight “Platform”, a curatorial project featuring large-scale artworks, installations and commissions across Piers 92 & 94. selected projects include Berndnaut Smilde, an Amsterdam based artist who stages a theatrical set as a site for the repeated generation of a cloud. find his work at pier 94. Another Interesting work is by Wilmer Wilson IV, who will occupy Pier 92’s Publications Lounge to show a large-scale installation of a carved salt wall. Through May 27th The New Museum Triennial is a recurring exhibition dedicated to emerging artists from around the world. The main concept of the Triennial is to expose new artists who are shaping the current discourse of contemporary art. This year will show approximately thirty artists from nineteen countries. New Museum 235 Bowery street  EBECHO MUSLIMOVA at Magenta Plains Through Feb 11th Ebecho Muslimova is a New York-based artist who makes strikingly graphic paintings and drawings using sense of humor and absurd. The subject of her work is an alter ego named “Fatebe”, who finds herself in various impossible situations. One works features Fatebe as a genie inside a jar of coins, gagged by a stack of quarters. Another, as Narcissus poised over a pool of still water while folded into the angles of a laundry drying rack. Using minimalist, black and white graphic lines, Muslimova uses the female body as a malleable, expressive form, roasting shame and anxiety on a spit. Every curve glistens. Magenta Plains 94 Allen St  Layota Rubi Frazier at Gavin Brown Enterprise Through Feb 24th Gavin Brown Enterprise in Harlem is showing a solo exhibition of artist and photographer, LaToya Ruby Frazier. Through photography, video, and performance Frazier explores social justice and cultural changes in America. " I use my artwork as a platform to advocate for others, the oppressed, the disenfranchised. When I encounter an individual or family facing inequality I create visibility through images and story-telling to expose the violation of their human rights.". Three bodies of work are presented in this show, Including Frazier's best-known body of work, The Notion of Family (2001-2014); an exploration into her family, her hometown, and her own experiences through landscape and portraiture in the de-industrialized steel town of Braddock, PA. Opening Feb 14th “Los Alamos,” the most famous body of work by William Eggleston will be on view at the met strating Feb 14th. “Los Alamos,” created over a nine-year period, documents Eggleston’s journeys through the American South and West. The exhibition includes color studies (used for the first time in the history of fine art), made during numerous road trips with his friends Walter Hopps and Dennis Hopper—to New Mexico, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and elsewhere. Furthermore, the show will include photographs of the social and physical landscape of the Mississippi delta region, which remained at the artist’s home.
